Referred to by some viewers as “environmental art,” this project covers five acres surrounding a residential farmhouse in western Virginia. The installation uses 198 light fixtures, three miles of buried wiring, 51 loudspeakers and an elaborate computer control system.
Through the use of weather sensing devices interfaced via computer, the dimming cycles, color changes and on/off nature of light fixtures are driven by external forces.
An extensive sound system makes use of active equalization, delay and noise cancellation. This design allows for extensive ground coverage, high clarity and fidelity without requiring the use of high volume levels.
