The client requested a lighting design for a 67′ x 23′ 2.5 story great room which would not utilize any suspended or recessed light fixtures. The design makes use of open backed “columns” which are fitted with dual PAR38 halogen lamp compartments connected by a custom designed “half light pipe” reflector. These columns when placed an appropriate distance from the wall provide reflected room lighting from the adjacent wall surfaces. Playing on the rooms Palladian derived proportions, the columns were similarly designed on Palladio’s Tuscan proportions and spacing.
